Suncrest Home Master Bed Room Make Over

Before...

This is a beautiful custom built home in Suncrest with amazing views of Utah's Wasacht mountain range. They came to me in hopes that I could help them solve their problem and add a little more style to the space too.  This incredible view was costing them sleep.  The windows faced East which made sunrise blaze through the windows and reflect off the mirror across from their bed and then right into their eyes.  They installed rattan blinds but, as you can see, they did nothing when trying to keep the light out.  Desperate, a towel was placed in the window above the bed.
After making several sketches I came up with a great vision for the room.  It both solved the lighting problem and gave a great sophisticated and luxurious style to the space.

Now for the after......

Who said window treatments weren't important!  What an amazing transformation.  This room has several architectural features that I hoped to bring more attention to.  It has a tall, recessed ceiling with wonderful wood trim that is lighted from behind.  An elegant fan lays in the center adding to the dark wood and metal surfaces.  The view was the most important feature.  I wanted to dress the windows without obstructing the natural scene outdoors.  To accomplish both tasks I like to hang the drapes as close to the ceiling as possible.  It helps you notice the height of the room and add drama to the window.  The roman blinds are also hung high, just behind the drapery rod, to give the appearance of much larger windows and so that the view is not obstructed at all.  We kept the rattan blinds and added the tweed shades.  This second layer blacks out the room for plenty of rest during the long summer months.

I love texture and mixing them.  Here, the mix of rattan, tweed, silk and a little linen on the roman shade add drama without assaulting the eye.  The silk strip also adds to the emphases of the high ceilings.  The linen on the roman shade has a simple bead and pleated design that works well with the other fabrics.  Subtle detail make the room.
What a fun project this was and this family was terrific to work with.  Overall, very satisfied with the results.  Let me know what you think.
