Luxury in the Mountains

Before:

Beautiful custom built home in the Utah mountains.  Brand new and ready for some softening.  The home screams luxury with it's quality, style, furnishings and warm color scheme.  One issue this homeowner had was noise.  With the high ceilings and hard surfaces,  every sound was 5 times louder then in a home that is carpeted and has more soft textures in its surroundings.  The second concern was reducing the stark look of the rooms.  This is typical in new homes because you are so careful where you hang pictures on the new walls and where you place furniture because you are still figuring out your space and what works best where. Sun light was not an issue because of a covered porch outside and tinting on the windows.  However, we love the wood work and beautiful arches in the main living room and the beautiful view of the Wasatch mountains. Now to design.

Arched window treatment with high ceilings

These turned out stunning!  High ceilings and an arch window to boot.  The fabrics are thick and rich in design.  The chunky medallions and contrast fabric on the edges,  they all melt together in a beautiful combination that adds a great deal of warmth and sound control to the space.  The puddle on the floor gives the room a more formal feel and the color pallet keeps it warm and inviting.  There was no need to have these be functioning drapes yet they do have a function.

Dining room valance and drape
I love the change to this part of the open floor plan.  This was a pretty "cool" space in the original photo.  It has two large windows and all hard surfaces from the kitchen counters, tile floor and wood dining table.  Not wanting to obstruct the view in any way, I opted to design a custom valance that would fit this small alcove. The fabric is the same fabric that was used on the edge of the main room drapes.  This helps the open floor plan work together but still give each part of the space it's own identity.  The drapes by the console table leave the window unobstructed but still give a great deal of style and noise control to the room.  They, too, have a large puddling on the floor to make it work as a casual and formal eating space.  The valance has a beautiful braided edge detail that is subtle but effective.

Great project!  Terrific family and an amazing home.  More to come.
